So What is A Destination Wedding?

Many people have heard the phrase "destination wedding" -- but they aren't totally sure what it is. Destination weddings are the latest trend in weddings. Instead of having your wedding in your hometown or the groom's hometown: you select an exotic and fun location to hold the wedding and everyone travels there for the wedding.

Fact or Fiction: Destination Weddings are Expensive.

Well....this can actually be both fact and fiction; it all depends on how you plan it. Some couples that are savvy logistical planners have gotten great travel deals for everyone to wind up really saving a bundle on airfare and hotel fees. But yes, a destination wedding is probably going to wind up costing more than a wedding you hold in your hometown. That being said, many couples do keep costs down by inviting a small number of people. So instead of having 200 guests at your wedding -- you might have 20 to 50 people there.

Fact or Fiction: All Destination Weddings are in exotic locations.

While many destination weddings are held in beautiful locations such as Rome, the Caribbean and Greece -- yours could be held at any destination that you please. A popular destination for weddings for years has been Las Vegas -- but it used to be that the bride and groom would simply go alone. Now they are turning this into a destination wedding where the bride and groom bring family and friends out for the event.

Fact or Fiction: Guests like destination weddings.

This is certainly a Fact! Many guests enjoy the idea of going to an exotic location to celebrate your wedding. Most guests will spend at least several days in the location. This can be fun in itself, as with everyone gathered in one location for several days it becomes like an extended family reunion of sorts. Most destination weddings have planned activities for the entire weekend for guests who come out early or stay after the wedding to keep their guests happily entertained.

Fact or Fiction: Planning a Destination Wedding is hard.

Well...planning any wedding can be challenging. It would be best to say that in today's world with the Internet and the fax machine -- planning a destination wedding has gotten much easier. Just about every hotel and wedding reception offers you a virtual tour online -- so you can check out locations from the comfort of your own home if you can't get down to the destination before the wedding. Planning a destination wedding in today's world is much easier than it ever has been. The destination wedding was once the wedding of the celebrities and the elite -- and now it is something that more and more couples can consider.
